The HRD Minister has released the list of top universities and colleges of engineering, management and pharmacy in “India Ranking Report 2016.” The National Ranking Report 2016 were ranked by National Bureau of Accreditation (NBA) based on five criteria — teaching and learning resources, graduation outcome, perception, outreach and inclusivity and research productivity. All institutions were judged based on self-disclosure of information. 

The Indian Institute of Technology’s have occupied the top 10 best engineering colleges slot with IIT Madras placed at number one with a weighted score of 89.42, followed by IIT Bombay, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Delhi and IIT Kanpur with weighted score of 87.67, 83.91, 82.03 and 81.07, respectively. 

While public colleges like IITs and NITs have been instrumental in providing the education and necessary guidance required for the polishing and development of these skills, there are also a number of private institutions that have been providing quality education.

Rank 1: Indian Instituteof Technology, Kanpur

It is a public research college, located in Kanpur (Uttar Pradesh). The institute was created with the assistance of a consortium of 9 leading US research universities as part of the Kanpur Indo-American Programme (KIAP).

Rank 2: Indian Instituteof Technology, Kharagpur

It is a public engineering institution established by the government of India in 1951. It is establish to train engineers and scientists. Among IITs, IIT-Kharagpur institute has the largest campus (2,100 acres), the most departments, and the highest student enrolment.

Rank 3: Birla Instituteof Technology and Sciences, Pilani

Rank 9: Indian Instituteof Technology, Guwahati

The institute offers undergraduate, post-graduate and doctoral programmes in Engineering. Established in 1994, it is the sixth IIT and the first to introduce Design as one of the disciplines.

According to sources and reports, this is the first-of-its-kind indigenous ranking framework for higher education colleges and institutions, which has come out with a list of top 100 universities and colleges of engineering, management and pharmacy in the country.
