As

Education Minister Abul Kalam Azad. The first IIT was established in

Indian Institute of Technology, Madras
IIT-
Madras, also known as IIT Chennai. It was inaugurated in 1959 by
Prof. Humayun Kabir, Union Minister for Scientific Research and
Cultural Affairs. IIT Madras is among the first sixteen IIT's listed
under The Institutes of Technology Act, 1961.
IIT-Bombay
was initiated in 1958 and was the first institute to be set up with
foreign aid. Over the years, Indian Institute of Technology Bombay

Indian
Institute of Technology Kharagpur was the first IIT in India
established in 1951. The first session of IIT-K was started in August

IIT-
Delhi was established in the year of 1959 and registered as a Society
under the Societies Registration Act No. XXI of 1860 in June 1960. It

“Institute of Technology (Amendment) Act 1963”. in the same year.
IIT-Kanpur
was situated in 1959. It was registered under Registration of Society
Act XXI of 1860 on November 2, 1959. Indian Institute of Technology
Kanpur was the first institute to be formed with the aid of a
consortium of 9 US research universities as part of the Kanpur
Indo-American Programme (KIAP).
Established
way back in 1847, this is the oldest technical institution in the
continent of Asia. It is one of the prominent institutes in
engineering and technology. The college has completed 150th year of
its existence in October 1996.
IIT
Hyderabad is a public university located in Medak district,
Telangana, India. It is one of the eight new IITs established by the
Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India under The

Institute of Technology- Gandhinagar was founded in 2008 and is
located in Palaj, Gandhinagar, Gujarat on the banks of river
Sabarmati. It is one of the eight new Indian Institutes of
Technologyies announced by the Ministry of Human Resource Development
in 2008.
IIT-Rupnagar
was established by MHRD in year 2008. The classes for academic
session 2008–2009 were held at IIT Delhi. The institute flagged its

is an autonomous institute of education and research in science,
