college education, colleges, best engineering college in India, Pune engineering colleges, engineering courses, best engineering colleges, top 10 engineering colleges, engineering admissionMechanical engineering is one of the oldest branches of engineering and is also referred to as the ‘mother’ branch. Technically, it is the application of the problem-solving methodologies of engineering from design to manufacturing to the marketplace for any object.
Traditionally, it is a combination of concepts such as mechanics, robotics, kinematics, thermodynamics, structural analysis, fluid mechanics and many others. Furthermore, mechanical engineers apply these concepts in the process of designing state-of-the-art manufacturing units, aircraft and aerospace parts, various types of motor vehicles, and a vast assortment of industrial machinery.
Additionally, mechanical engineers also contribute in the development of different engines, heating and cooling systems, power plant equipment, and other simple and complex machinery.
However, time has changed. Nowadays the opportunities of mechanical engineers are expanding beyond the traditional boundaries. Now, mechanical engineers are focusing their attention towards new areas of research such as development of composite materials, nano-technology, biomedical applications, environmental conservation and many more.
Educational Requirements:
The basic and most important to become a Mechanical Engineer is 10+2 with PCM (Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics). To be eligible for a graduate engineering programme in a college/ university, you should have scored at least 50% marks and 60% for being eligible for Indian Institute of Technology with PCM as main subject.
There are various entrance examinations such as:
The Joint Entrance Examination for IITs (IITJEE) for admission to diverse IITs
All-India Engineering Entrance Exam (AIEEE) for admission to various National Institutes of Technology or regional engineering colleges
Other State level exams
Apart from these, there are thousands of engineering colleges in India where you can get into a graduate programme in mechanical engineering. Some of the colleges conduct their own entrance exams whereas some accept IIT, UPSEE or AIEEE scores. You can also opt for diploma in mechanical engineering. For this, you should have 50% marks in class 10th.
